Statement issued by

awaits with interest the first findings of the Project Manager charged with conducting the Review of West Cornwall Hospital Services. We understand that her investigation into

the costs and consequences of developing and investing in West Cornwall Hospital
the costs and consequences of transferring all emergency admissions to Treliske
the risk assessment of current services at West Cornwall Hospital, and the identification of any necessary short-term measures and immediate actions to be taken was due for completion by March 30th, and the findings made public.

These matters take on particular significance given the recent distressing - though not uncommon - case of Mrs Gilbertson from Penzance, who had to wait for fourteen hours on a trolley at Treliske before a bed could be found. Given the many instances of unacceptable waits like these, and the long turn-around times for ambulances unloading at Treliske (anything up to two hours), it is hoped that those who are advocating removal of emergency services from West Cornwall Hospital seriously reconsider their viewpoint. All of Cornwall will benefit if they work instead for increased back-up at West Cornwall Hospital to enable its first class work to be maintained and improved.

Meanwhile , and members of the public await news of the first findings of Ms Jo Yelland, the Health Authority, Royal Cornwall Hospital and Primary Care Trust Project Manager.
