WHY ARE THEY USED?
Nitrates are used to relieve and prevent the symptoms of angina (chest pain/
discomfort)

HOW DO THEY WORK?
Angina is caused by an area of the heart muscle not receiving enough blood.
This medication opens up the arteries allowing more blood to flow to the heart muscle.
The overall action also helps the main chamber of the heart to pump more
effectively. Their action lasts for several hours, and used regularly they will
prevent the occurrence of your angina symptoms.

WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR:
Patients often experience headaches when taking these tablets for the first time.
The headaches usually go away after a few days. Meanwhile, it may be a good idea
to take paracetamol (or another headache relieving medication) if you have not
had any problems taking them before and if not contraindicated with your present
 medication (ask your doctor).
Other side effects such as flushing and feeling light-headed also usually resolve
after a few days. If these symptoms do not go away or you experience faints,
  you must contact your doctor.
.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS
May occasionally cause an upset stomach, so it advisable to take the medication
with food and a full glass of water.
Viagra should not be taken if you are taking nitrates
