HEART CONCERN
FUND RAISING
As well as providing friendship and support, the group undertakes to raise funds to help
purchase essential equipment for the Acute Medical Wards at the Royal Lancaster
Infirmary and for the after care of patients following discharge from hospital that cannot
be provided through National Health Service funding. This is a token of appreciation for
the care members received whilst in hospital.
The provision of such equipment helps to improve patient care, reduce staff workload and
support people with heart disease in the community.
Between 1st April 1992 and 31st March 1998 the group provided funding for a Cardiac
Support Nurse, one of the first in the country, to visit every heart attack patient in their
own home within 7 days of discharge from hospital. (Cost £50,000.00)
The service proved to be invaluable and is now funded by the hospital.
ALL money collected is used for coronary heart disease projects in Lancaster,
Morecambe and surrounding rural area.
