National Viola and Pansy Society Newsletter Autumn 1996

NEWS

AGM 1997.

The 1997 AGM will take place on Tuesday 15th April at 7.45 p.m. The venue is Court Oak Methodist Chinch, Harborne, Birmingham. All members are invited to attend and maps and directions are available from the Secretary. I am aware that it is not possible for our more distant members, but I should like to see a few more 'locals' in attendance.

Annual Show 1997.

Following the success of this year's show, the Council have decided to return to the same venue, St. John's Church, Harborne, Birmingham. The date for your diaries is Saturday 19th July. Schedules and maps will be forwarded with the Spring Newsletter.

Subscriptions 1997.

The annual subscription remains 3.00. Renewal forms will be in the Spring Newsletter in April 1997 - this will save the Society a considerable sum in postage. May I remind members who joined after 30th June 1996 that their membership runs until April 1998.

Plants for New Members.

Members who have joined since the end of April will receive their three plants in the first two weeks of April 1997. I realise that this begs much patience of those who joined in early May, but you will receive much stronger plants, ready to go out.

Badges.

The Society has at last received a new batch of enamel badges. However, I am afraid that, as it is quite a few years since the previous batch was struck, there is a price increase. These badges are now available from the Secretary at 2.75 including postage and packing.

Viola Nursery.

Members will be pleased to hear of another Nursery with a viola list which includes both bedding varieties and cornutas. The details are: -

Four Elms Cottage Garden Nursery,
Bough Beech Road,
Four Elms,
Kent
TN8 6NE.

Library Addition.

The Society's library now contains a copy of Rodney Fuller's small monograph "Violas and Violettas" , donated by the author. It is a truly delightful volume, and is available on loan from the Secretary.
