[Exhibition] Viola 'Agnes Cochrane'

Raiser: A Cochrane
Year: Pre 1944

Colour: Lower petals crimson purple, top petals rich mauve splashed with purple.

General: A difficult bloom to flatten. It invariably comes cup shaped, and attempts to flatten the bottom petal often result in splitting. It can be induced to sit convex on a board, but is not a good vase variety.

Cultivation: probably the easiest of the purple fancies to propagate. It has a rather more bushy habit than Ann Robb or Sarah Binnie, and a stronger root base to produce cutting material. However, I have found that it does need annual renewal as second year plants often seem exhausted by the effort of blooming and shooting.
