Viola cornuta 'Clouded Yellow'

v.c. 'Clouded Yellow' Introduced by Elizabeth MacGregor and only listed under her name in the 2000/1 RHS 'Plantfinder'. Described in her catalogue as a "Beautiful combination of creamy yellow overlaid with pale slatey-blue streaks and veins. A lovely and most unusual cultivar which occured on our nursery in 1996"

We find that it is not really yellow. Some flowers are mostly blue with just a bit of yellow in the centre & blue veins, others are pale creamy yellow with blue mottling on the upper leaves. The flowers are large for a cornuta & not the typical shape but sprawling, with petals more rounded than elongated. Faintly scented.
