These pages will give you information on the three types of bow

Recurve Bow
Compound Bow
Longbow

The three types of bow all have certain advantages and disadvantages. They all shoot different arrows, have a different release and have different levels of power.

The decision you have to make when choosing what kind of bow you want to shoot can be a difficult one, do you want accuracy and power or a more traditional approach?

Most people have an idea of which bow they want to shoot when they take up the sport, that is until they see the other bows in action and have a go for themselves, then they can have a very difficult decision to make.

The oldest type of bow is the longbow, developed for medieval war, and the newest is the compound, developed for American hunters, the recurve sits in the middle of these two in most aspects.
