My interest in radio controlled helicopters starting initially as an inquisitive young boy who used to love taking things apart and then putting them back together again. I always wanted to know how things worked. I left school and knew immediately that I wanted to pursue a career in the motor trade, so I managed to secure an apprenticeship with Ford Motor Company and loved it. The motor trade doesn't pay well and so it took me ten years before I bought my first model aeroplane kit, a Precedent T180 trainer. My preference would have been a helicopter but was talked out of it in the local model shop (I think they were biased). The one thing I have learnt in this hobby is you need an understanding partner and at that time I didn't have one so after about five years it still wasn't built. We eventually split up, (not over the plane) and I remarried. My new wife is far more tolerant and understanding. I eventually got the plane finished, but never flew it, I still wanted that elusive helicopter, so sold the plane, did some research and was bought a Raptor 30V2 helicopter for Christmas. I joined the club in February 2004 and although there has been many crashes and great expense I'm still there and more determined than ever.
