The Power of Words
|
"We don't describe the world we see -- we see the world we describe. Language, as the single most fundamental force of the human intellect, has the power to alter our perception. We think in words, and these words have the power to limit us or to set us free; they can frighten us or evoke our courage. Similarly, the stories we tell ourselves about our own lives eventually become our lives. We can tell healthy stories or horror stories. The choice is ours."

Business,
social and personal achievements depend heavily upon a person's ability to communicate
clearly. In his famous book called Effective
Speaking, Dale
Carnegie makes the following claim.
"There
are four ways , and only four ways, in which we have contact with the world.
We are evaluated and classified by these four contacts: what we do, how we look,
what we say, and how we say it ..."
In the
same book, Carnegie offers the following advice that deals with fear of public speaking.
"Draw
yourself up to your full height and look your audience straight in the eyes,
and begin to talk as confidently as if every one of them owed you money. Imagine
that they do. Imagine that they have assembled there to beg you for an extension
of credit. The psychological effect on you will be beneficial."
Confidence is a key ingredient.
