More sunshine, more warm and dry weather, right through to mid-September when it started turning cool and showing promises of autumn. We’ve finished the carrots, although there are a few second sowings coming on—possibly the second sowing was too late to get big carrots. The yellow “one ball” courgettes are still growing, although the skins are getting tough. We’ve had a few green courgettes each week. The last of the lettuce is getting a bit bitter. The radishes, which were horrible as traditional roots, have flowered and produced pods which provide a mildly pleasant addition to salads. The tomato “tumblers” have fruited in a small way and are fairly tasty. The peppers are still ripening. We’ve had sweetcorn, which is really sweet and luscious. The plums are nearly over, but we’ve made loads of jam and jelly, plus frozen several cartons of stewed plums for the winter. The apples are still prolific and are so juicy and tasty! We’ve started clearing some of the veg beds ready for a winter mulch.
