At last, some sunshine! Three whole days in a row of glorious sunshine! - Followed by lots of rain, of course. We’re still eating a glut of courgettes, especially the round, yellow “one ball” courgettes, which are really tasty. We’ve started on the glut of carrots. Still lots of lettuce, spinach and swiss chard. The cabbages, which were looking so good, got left in the ground too long, and got nibbled away, apparently by earwigs. The fruit on the trees is ripening well and looks gorgeous. We’ve stewed some windfall apples and fattened ourselves on apple crumble. The squashes are turning orange. They all look as if they are going to be “Jack O’Lantern”, even though I planted six different types of squash. Second sowing of carrot, cauliflower, cabbage and salad seeds—although I now realise I should have done this much earlier. |

Peppers on the pepper plant, and flowers on the tomato “tumbler”, in the greenhouse. |

The Three Sisters Bed in early August. There are cobs of corn growing healthily, and a rampage of squash. |

Ripening apples and plums. |

Our longest carrot (“sugarsnax”) —over 12” long! |

The first onions. |

Another full basket of veg. |
