My Dad served aboard Manxman during his National Service. He was a Petty Officer Electrical Artificer serving in Singapore and returned to the UK on board her, in I believe 1946.
He was highly delighted when some years ago the model makers Airfix produced a kit of HMS Manxman which my elder bother constructed for him and now lives in his small study.
From David Winterbottom
A couple of views of Manxman taken on a pond near Toronto. I built the two about 25 years ago, everything works on the Nelson, it even has a Royal Marine Band playing "Heart of Oak". Both are 1/8 = 1ft., Nelson coming out at about 8ft. A comment on Nelson's legendary poor performance. Nelson at 35,000 tons, had only 40,000 SHP, where Manxman at only 4000 tons was driven by 72000 SHP.
My late brother-in-law Lt.Cdr. A.T. Spencer-Phillips remembers seeing both of them in Malta, but not at the same time.
