SPARTAN EFFORT RAISES MUCH MORE THAN A CLOUD OF DUST
A group of physically handicapped youngsters had the time of
their lives when they were shown round the hunter killer submarine HMS Spartan,
in Devonport Dockyard.
The children from Plymouth's Trengweath School were there this week to inspect
the work of two sailors who raised £200 from a marathon spring clean job on the
nuclear powered submarine.
Leading Seaman Anthony Clarke and Able Seaman Kevin Danks who both live in
Devonport, spent nearly two hours turning HMS Spartan into the most spotless
boat in the Royal Navy.
They cleaned every square inch to raise the cash for the special School and
ended up with blistered knee caps and dry, split hands.
They were on hand to present the cheque to headmistress Mrs. Judith Steward.
Mrs. Steward went away with more money than she expected as two engineering
ratings had raised an extra £160 by running in the Saltash half-marathon and
the ship's fund donated £100.
She praised the crew for the fabulous treatment they had given the small group
of five to seven year olds.
Lovely
She said "It was lovely to get the money but it was equally important to
see the interest the young men showed to the children.
The sailors treated them with great sensitivity and carried them to every corner
of the submarine and even gave them chocolate biscuits and orange squash which
is the key to every child's heart."
The money will go towards buying much-needed equipment, including a record
player.
Now the Spartan crew have even offered to go to the school and redecorate one of
the rooms.

THE DOCKYARD SWAN MYSTERY

Picture donated by Anon
Several years ago a mysterious event took place in Plymouth
Dockyard. An event so mysterious it featured on the West Country Evening News.
It involved a swan, (One of Her Majesty's PROTECTED Swans in fact.) To
this day the local constabulary haven't found the cause as to why this Swan
turned a strange shade of 'draught-mark blue'.
Able Seaman Soapy Watson gave this eye-witness account. "I was on
the casing of Spartan with my tin of draught-mark blue paint and draught-mark
blue paintbrush, renewing the blue paint on the draught-marks when this white
Swan went past, and hissed at me, next thing I know its changed colour. I hope
they catch the person responsible, he is obviously a nutter. You will have to
excuse me as I need to remove the feathers, sorry I mean paint
from my brush".
It looks set to remain a mystery???????????

Another mystery. Spot the odd one out!!!!! Alright J.D. Calm Down, Calm Down
