THE OLD CRICKET FIELD
WOLVEY WETLAND RESERVE

In the Autumn of 2008
The Wolvey Environmental Group (& Friends)
Built a Boardwalk
The Boardwalk is built entirely of Recycled Plastic Materials
supplied by SECURE-A-FIELD of Coventry.

Designed & Constructed by the Wolvey Environmental Group
and local Volunteers

Funded by Grants from BBC Breathing Place’s Big Lottery Fund
and Rugby Borough Council’s Rural Development Fund.

Building the Boardwalk:
This hi-lights some of the adverse conditions
the group had to overcome during the Build

Firstly the Benches had to be dismantled

The benches were stored off-site until the Boardwalk was completed

Concrete blocks on the legs of the benches were difficult to remove

It was important to get the levels and the route right.

Mark fom Secure-A-Field and Ben from the Environmental Group determine the position of the posts

Parts of the site required leveling

Some parts needed leveling more than others

The posts go in the boggiest area

When thr rails were offered up, some minor adjustments were required

Preparing the ground ready for the rails

The first rails are fitted

The first boards are attached to the rails

Hurrah!!... We have the start of a Boardwalk

The trickiest parts were round the bends

The posts go in on the home straight

One more check on the levels

We always saw eye to eye

The final few rails are fitted

A dirty job but someone has to do it

All hands to the pumps has the last few boards go down

Time for a well earned break

Bob delivers materials for the re-siting of the benches

One of the benches will be repositioned in decking near the north gate

The bench is position in concrete

The concrete is left to set

The second bench is positioned by the main passing point

Some final adjustments to the conctrete base

Job well done!!
