Welcome!
Our website covers the history of the Cumbrian Solway plain between Saltpans, just north of Maryport, and Skinburness, about fifteen miles west of Carlisle. We also try to bring you an occasional glimpse of the area today.
Kathleen Ferrier, the famous British contralto, lived in Silloth during the 1940s. Click here to find out more about her life and to listen to a podcast featuring some of her best recordings.
