Silloth, Convalescet Home

The Convalescent Home

Located near West Beach, the home had its own railway platform. Wood's Guide of 1870 says: ... patients requiring the 'salubrious air' are sent from the Carlisle Infirmary. It was built by voluntary subscription at a cost of £1,500. It is a very nice building with its velvet lawn running down to the beach. We do not know of an institution that deserves more support from the public than this. For proof enquire of the scores that have received its benefits.
