Solway plain - past and present

The restoration of Holm Cultram Abbey

Holme St Cuthbert History Group

In January 2008, work at last began on the restoration of the fire-damaged church.

Over the coming months, this page will keep visitors updated on the progress being made.

These pictures by Bill Allan show the first stage of the work as the new roof timbers are lifted into place.

By the first week of February, the roofing timbers were in place and the church was finally weather-proof again.

St George's Day

By Saint George's Day, April 23rd, the slates were in place and the first stage of the job was completed.

Pictures by Simon Ledingham.
