BRIDING NOORA Scale: 3.5mm / ft. Gauge: 9mm ('H09') by Peter Leadley Size: 4ft x 2ft (1.2m x 0.6m) (plus operator space) Operators: Two, Transport: One car. Briding Noora represents a narrow gauge railway line that was laid to serve a small factory (Marine and general engineering) near the sea, somewhere on the East Coast of England. The narrow gauge line runs to a large town, that boasts a standard gauge main line railway and transhipment arrangements, some 4 miles away During the early nineteen sixties some bright spark decided to get onto the bandwagon and built a 'holiday camp' near by. Perhaps too near, but this was dictated by the fact that the ironing board that the layout is built on is only just 4ft long! The line is now (mid 1960's) also used to bring people (happy holiday makers) to and from the holiday camp so a mixture of short goods trains, diesel hauled, and passenger trains usually steamed hauled are in use. Not sure if the current laws on Health and Safety at Work or the Railway Inspectorate would actually allow the line to operate - but this is the swinging sixties! Ref: Railway Modeller May 2000 |
