Gox Hill Quarries Scale 4mm - 1ft. Gauges 9mm & 18.2mm ('009' & 'EM') by Peter Leadley Size: 16ft x 6ft (4.8m x 1.8m) (size includes operating area), Operators: four, Transport: Two cars, The layout represents a fictional location somewhere in Oxfordshire served by a branch of the old GWR which terminates at Gox Hill station. A stone quarry is located near by and a 2ft 3ins narrow gauge railway is still used to bring stone from the quarry, off scene, to be trans-shipped onto the standard gauge railway, again off scene. The stone traffic is supplemented by local passenger trains on both the standard and narrow gauge lines, but for how much longer? The local Oxford bus company are now operating into Gox Hill. While the standard gauge is predominantly steam traction, a mix of steam and diesel locomotives is used on the narrow gauge lines. A narrow boat still plies on the canal although the level of traffic hardly disturbs the resident swans now. On a really sunny day, Jean, the barmaid from the Bell Inn has been known to top up her sun tan in the garden of the inn. The year is 1952 and the economy is just picking up, although ‘his lordship’ from the nearby manor house is still using his pre-war Humber.
