Wintrigham Haven is a 'might have been' that in reality, very nearly happened. The lead has been taken from the fact that the North Lindsey Light Railway, which ran from Scunthorpe to Winteringham (note that the 'e' has been dropped), would but for the onset of WW1, have been extended through to Barton upon Humber. Having supposed that the line was built, the time scale has been wound on to to the BR 'Blue Era', specifically 1982-84.

The Haven is depicted as having developed into a small commercial port, handling various commodities, a lot of which are associated with the local steel and agricultural trades. Many cargoes, though not all, generate revenue for BR. The associated workings bringing classes 20, 31, 37, and 47 to the haven. Passing behind the Silos, the line to Barton supposedly swings through 90 degrees, passing the cement works at South Ferriby, which also generates traffic for BR's railfreight sector. Passenger services, mostly 2 car DMUs are hourly. These services will have just recently seen some re-organisation following the recent opening of the Humber Bridge, which can be glimsed on the backscene.

Scenically, much use has be made of the many suitable items from the trade. As far as structures are concerned the layout has benefitted on 2 fronts. Many items from the Hornby Skaledale range are based on Lincolnshire prototypes, and these look the part in the village area. In the dock area extensive use has been made of kits produced for the American market, which despite their origins, have made into convincing 40s onward UK dockside buildings. One levelling factor is that all items have either been modified slightly or weathered in the quest for realism. Construction is along very conventional lines, although the layout is operated by DCC. Trackwork is SMP, with 'copperclad' point operated by Tortoise motors, operated by manual switches. Locos and DMUs are mainly detailed and re-gauged RTR items, although some DMUs and a fair bit of freight stock are kit built.
