AGM - Dinner and Prizes 22nd November 2002
Aske Hall plus Lord and Lady Zetland played host to Richmond and Zetland Harriers AGM, dinner and presentation on Friday 22nd November.
Members met for drinks and conversation in the splendid surroundings of the Drawing Room before sitting down to business in the Main Hall. The AGM was conducted under the watchful gaze of family portraits and Chairman, Bob Pocklington thanked everyone for their contribution to another successful year. There were two significant points forthcoming: a reduction in Annual Subscription to £25 and the appointment of the Reverend Bill Simms to succeed Kath Robinson as Honorary Secretary. The reduction in Subs was brought about by the prudence of Treasurer, Ian Hepworth and by the Club’s release of their Clubhouse at the Garden Village - the cost of maintaining the Clubhouse had grown in inverse proportion to amount of Club use and indoor facilities at Le Cateau Gymnasium were available at a more reasonable cost. Kath Robinson was thanked by all present, particularly the Committee, for her two years as Club Secretary and will hand-over to Bill Simms.
The Members were joined by several guests from local schools, the Rotary and Richmondshire District Council for the dinner and subsequent presentation of Awards. Bob Pocklington introduced GB international athlete, Allison Curbishley with praise, not only for her medal-winning exploits but also, for her contribution to grass-roots athletics from her early days in NYSD T&F and X-C competition. Allison brought her Commonwealth Games silver medal and her photo-scrapbook for all to see and then spoke eloquently about her experiences as an athlete in competition all around the world whilst stressing the importance of “doing your best whilst enjoying what you’re doing”.
There were 28 Trophies awarded as follows.
