BOFRA Races August - September 2002

Gary Bastow of Richmond and Zetland Harriers continued his quest for a medal in the Veteran's section of the BOFRA season with four qualifying races inside a fortnight and is presently in third place with just two more races on their calendar. Flying back from holiday on Saturday 24th August, he knew wouldn't be able to make the start-line for the Malham Show Fell Race so took the shorter journey to West Witton and competed there, finishing 2nd in the Senior's Race. Gary subsequently ran Fell Races on Bank Holiday Monday 26th at Hebden Sports (18th overall & 6th Vet), Wednesday 28th at Reeth Show (13th & 6th Vet), Wednesday 4th September at Muker Show (8th & 4th Vet) and Sunday 8th at the Burnsall Feast (9th & 3rd Vet). His last two outings are at Embsay on Sunday 22nd and the highest and steepest to complete the season at the Wasdale Head Show on Saturday 12th October.

Also competing at West Witton, in the Junior Race, were the Roberts' family with Douglas 2nd, Jessie 4th and Fergus 6th. They followed this with an outing in the East Witton Fell Races on Bank Holiday Monday 26th - in the under 12 boy's race, Douglas was 1st and Fergus 5th whilst elder sister Jessie won the under 16 girl's race.

Philip Fitzpatrick also won gold in the 1500m, running away from his opposition on the last lap to finish in 4:42.
