Cleveland Tri- Aquathon - 7th September

On Saturday 7th September, four younger athletes from Richmond and Zetland Harriers competed in the Cleveland Tri Aquathon - a combination of swimming and running - and all with success. Fergus Roberts finished 3rd in the boys under 11 age-group, swimming 120m and running 1500m; brother Douglas also finished 3rd, he in the boys 11 and 12 age-group, swimming 200m and also running 1500m; sister Jessie won the girls 13 and 14 age-group, swimming 280m and running 3000m in 9:31; and Philip Fitzpatrick won the boys 13 and 14 age-group.

Nestle Rowntree Open - York 8th September

Jessie’s sporting weekend continued on Sunday 8th with a trip to Huntington Stadium, York, to compete in the Nestle Rowntree Open Medals meeting along with several other Harriers. The search for personal bests in the end-of-season T&F competitions brought the best out of Sam Stanislaus, finishing 2nd in the discus, winning a silver medal and setting a new Club record with a throw of 30m01. Sam also picked-up two bronze medals for the 80m hurdles and the long jump. Scarlett Gray was another bronze medal winner, finishing 3rd in the 800m in 2:41.1, one place ahead of twin sister Jessica.

RZH marks: under 11 boys - Rory Wadsworth (in his first competition as a Harrier) 75m 13.2, 600m 2:15.1 & long jump 3m10; under 13 girls - Sophie Broadway 80m 11.8, 150m 22.2 & long jump 3m70, Jessica Gray 800m 2:42.5, Scarlett Gray 70m hurdles 15.5 & 800m 2:41.1; under 15 boys - Sam Stanislaus 80m hurdles 13.1, long jump 5m39 & discus 30m01; under 15 girls - Jessie Roberts 800m 2:38.5 & discus 11m89.

Yorkshire Veterans Track & Field Champs - 8th September

The Yorkshire Veterans (not yet re-named Masters) held their T&F Championships at South Leeds Stadium on the same Sunday; three Harriers competed and they brought home six more medals. John Wild improved last year’s total by one, by winning gold medals in all four V50 throws. Mike Brooks won two golds; first in the V50 400m hurdles and then winning the 2000m steeplechase.
