Richmond and Zetland Harriers enjoyed good fortune on the Fells, in Track & Field and on the roads recently:- Gary Bastow was third Vet at Embsay; John Wild was third in the BMAF Weight Pentathlon and Rachel Robinson won £10 in the Boughton 10K.BOFRA Championships
Gary Bastow cemented his hold on third place in the Veteran’s category of the BOFRA Championships with 10th place (3rd Vet) in the Embsay Fell Race on Sunday 22nd September. Unofficially, Gary is now 3 points clear of Antony Johnson of Settle with one race, at the Wasdale Head Show on Saturday 12th October, to complete the season - a fine return on his efforts in his return to competition as a Veteran.BMAF Pentathlon 5th SeptemberJohn Wild journeyed south from Kirkby Fleetham to Ashford in Kent on Sunday 15th September to compete in the newly re-titled “Master’s” Weight Pentathlon - the usual four heavy throws plus an extra-heavy American hammer weighing 25 lbs. John was carrying more than his usual share of niggling injuries from a long season, which included winning all four throws in the M50 category at the Yorkshire Vets T&F Championships. His marks on the day - hammer 38m15, shot 10m87, discus 38m24, javelin 34m16 and weight 14m46 - gave him a total of 3354 points for 3rd place and the bronze medal at a National Championships.Canterbury HarriersRachel Robinson made a similar journey last weekend, from Hudswell to Boughton in Kent, to compete for her second-claim Club, Canterbury Harriers, in a local 10K road race. Rachel just missed bettering her season’s best time, set in the CDBramhall/Darlington 10K, but was happy with £5 for second lady and doubly-happy with another £5 for being one third of the winning team.
