2007 SEASONRichmond & Zetland Harriers are the local athletic club, affiliated to North Yorkshire County AA, North of England AA and UK Athletics. The Club is actively involved in Track & Field, Cross Country, Road Running, Fell Running, Orienteering and Triathlon. The Club caters for men and women, girls and boys from age 10 upwards. Our aims are to develop an individual’s athletic ability in an enjoyable atmosphere, to enable him or her to compete on equal terms with athletes from other clubs at local, County or national level.RZH compete in the North Yorkshire and South Durham League, year-round; Cross-Country in the winter and Track & Field in the summer. In 2007, the Girls and Boys compete in the Northern Division 2 North East of the Young Athletes T&F League and the Seniors compete in the Division 3 East of the combined Northern (Men’s & Women’s) T&F League. The Club vest, red with a white diagonal stripe, is always seen at the London Marathon and the Great North Run, in the Northern 6 stage and 12 stage Road Relays, at the sharp end of the Harrogate & District Summer Road Race League and at most local road races. We presently have two qualified Senior Coaches plus several Level One and Level Two Coaches, but additional help is always welcome. An interest in athletics and young athletes are the most important qualities - previous experience is not essential - keenness, patience and a sense of humour always help!TrainingSummer season: meet at 6.00 pm Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Athletics Stadium, Leyburn Road, Catterick Garrison - unless there is a competition - and train on the new all-weather track (and field), or on the road or on the trails.Winter season: again meet at 6.00 pm Thursdays at the Athletics Stadium, to train on the track under floodlights or on the road; Tuesdays meet at Le Cateau Gymnasium, Catterick Garrison at 6.00 pm, and train indoors or on the road, depending on the weather.Senior runners often train 7 days a week, in groups of similar ability, on and off road, having arranged to meet at suitable vantage points. |
