Gateshead Open Track and Field Meeting 21st April 2002Richmond and Zetland Harriers had seventeen athletes compete in the Gateshead Harriers Open T&F Medal Meeting at the International Stadium last Sunday and they bagged 18 medals between them.Top man was Sam Stanislaus who collected three gold medals from his three under 15 field events and set three PBs (personal bests) in the process: long-jumping 5m32, putting the shot 10m77 and high-jumping 1m60. Aaron Shaw was also in the gold rush with a massive 42m70 throw which won the under 17 javelin; over 16 metres ahead of second place and only 2½ metres short of Andrew Ekes 14 year old Club record.Top girl was Sophie Broadway with three silvers from her three events for under 13 girls. Leanne Shaw was 1st in the under 13 girls 100m in 15.0. Laura McAlhone was 2nd in the under 15 girls 100m in 13.3 and 4th in the 200m in 27.5. Kelly Bartram, under 17 but competing with the Junior Ladies, was 2nd in the discus with 26m56 - setting a PB and a new Club Record.John Wild, evergreen Veteran thrower, popped-up at Jarrow on Thursday 18th in an Open Throws Meeting. Another birthday has taken him into the over 50s but he proved as competitive as ever with a best hammer throw of 40m80, a PB and enough for 2nd place overall.Last Tuesday was the opening fixture in the Harrogate Road Race League and 220 runners from nine competing Clubs lined-up at Ilkley. Full results arent available yet but Ian Fisher of Otley lost his crown and, with three runners in the top ten, the Harriers are optimistic about their team place. |
