NYSD Track and Field meeting 30th April 2002Richmond and Zetland Harriers had twenty-one younger athletes compete in the first of this years NYSD T&F meetings at Clairville Stadium, Middlesbrough on Tuesday 30th April. Staged after the early-season Opens and before the first League matches, these midweek meetings are an opportunity to try another event or to line-up against different competition or for fine-tuning. All the athletes and their Coaches came away pleased with their performances and several set PB marks including Philip Fitzpatrick 1st in the under 15 boys 3000m in 10:32.1, Jessica & Scarlett Gray 1st & 2nd in the under 13 girls 800m in 2:39.4 & 2:45.6 respectively, Sophie Broadway 2nd in the under 13 girls long jump with 3m69 and Andy Lagan 2nd in the under 15 boys 800m in 2:10.9.Click for RZH results:Isle of Wight Marathon 19th May 2002On Sunday 19th Ian Hepworth ran the Isle of Wight Marathon, his second Marathon of the year, just a month after completing his tenth consecutive London Marathon. He said "it is considered one of the tougher marathons as it includes 1505 ft of climbing overall, it was also quite windy on the day so, although I was 9 minutes slower, I was quite pleased with my finishing time of 3:38:25 - it makes London seem easy!" Ian placed 36th overall out of 166 finishers and was 9th Vet O50 out of 32.Harrogate Midweek League at Starbeck on 22nd May 2002Race three in the Harrogate Midweek League was hosted by Nidd Valley Harriers on Wednesday 22nd from the Railway Social Club at Starbeck. The weather was good but the alternative course, brought about last year because of F&MD closures, was slippery after the previous days rain. Alan Stimpson of Harrogate was injured and missed the race leaving Ian Fisher to chalk-up his second win. He finished over a minute and a half clear of the field despite a fall and now heads the Seniors with 683 points. Eric Williams of Richmond and Zetland Harriers was second home and first Veteran, one place ahead of team-mate Jon Orange. Eric now heads the Veterans with 272 points, one more than Ben Grant of Harrogate, while Jon is second Senior, nine points off the lead. Dave Cardus was third Harrier home and third Vet in tenth place helping the Elite Team into second place on the night. Rachel Robinson was first lady in 66th place and was tenth counter for RZH, helping the Club to second place in the Open Team category.Click for RZH results: |
