Northern Men's League 6th July 2002

The Senior Men from Richmond and Zetland Harriers competed their third match in Division 4NE of the Northern Men's League on Saturday 6th in a double-header with Division 2NE at Clairville Stadium, Middlesbrough and won convincingly. This was their third consecutive win and only an earthquake stands in the way of promotion. The team scored a massive 402 points and the 166 point margin ahead of second place Morpeth Harriers was the biggest anyone could remember. Such performances are compelling; one win followed another and there were high points all afternoon: John Wild with three A-string wins in the throws (including a PB in the discus) and a second in the javelin; Dan Brooks with three A-string wins from 7 events including all both hurdles; Dave Armstrong, first in the A-string long and triple jumps and second in the high jump; Jon Orange with his third win over 5000m this season, scalping Alan Stimpson, his nemesis from the Midweek Road League; an A-string win in the 800m for James Wardman and B-string wins for John Aspell, Shaun Purkiss, Eric Williams, Neil Armstrong and Mike Brooks - a choice performance from ten athletes.
