BMAF - Buckingham School 10th May

John Wild - Warming up

John Wild

The same weekend, John Wild travelled a little further and did a little more - he went to Buckingham School and competed in the British Masters’s Athletic Federation (BMAF) Throws Decathlon and came home with the silver medal for the M50 age category. A throws decathlon is an unusual event as it is completed in a single day and there are only four throws in the Olympic programme - the remaining six are variations on a theme: brick, weighing 10kg and thrown like a shot; sling ball, a 1.5kg medicine ball with a leather strap, thrown like a discus; club, thrown like a javelin, mini-shot thrown discus style; one-handed heavy hammer, weighing 7.5kg and heavy hammer weighing 10kg. John put together an impressive set of marks to finish with a PB 6237 points, just 156 short of the winning total set by his friend and adversary, Merrick Bousfield of Liverpool PS.

JW results: shot 10m50, discus 38m65, javelin 37m70, hammer 40m98, brick 8m31, sling ball 49m09, club 53m67, mini-shot 24m77, one-handed heavy hammer 21m67 & heavy hammer 17m21.
