NML Track and Field Jarrow 2nd August 2003Dan Brooks picked-up the “Man-of-the-Match” award from Richmond and Zetland Harriers for his 46 point total from his maximum six individual events at the fourth and last NML T&F fixture at Jarrow on Saturday 2nd. Dan was one of three Harriers with an A-string win; he ran a season’s best 64.2 in the 400m hurdles plus second places in the 110m hurdles and the B-string triple jump. John Wild was another busy athlete, competing in all four throws, scoring 33 points and winning the discus. Jon Orange made it four wins out of four in the League as he and John Aspell finished one and two in the 5000m, winning the A and B-strings. Sam Stanislaus had to share first place in the high jump, having equal heights, equal clearances and equal failures on count back and also had a second place in the triple jump. Nick Zissler, another under-17 making his League debut, was a winner in the B-string 800m. Despite these performances and a 268 point total, the Harriers finished the match in fourth place, 60 points behind winners Seaton AC, and ended the season mid-table, out of the promotion places. Next season, the Northern Men’s and Women’s T&F Leagues will be amalgamated and the Club is looking forward to the change - whichever Division they’re in!
