NYSD Track & Field Middlesborough 12th August 2003

The Richmond and Zetland Harriers female team finished third on the night in the sixth and last NYSD T&F League meeting at Clairville Stadium, Middlesbrough on Tuesday 12th but the 10 points they earned took their season’s total to 66½ and was enough to secure the new League Trophy. The depleted male team could only manage seventh place and 6 points; their 56 point total kept them in third place behind Billingham and M&C. The competition for the Overall Trophy went “down-to-the-wire” - Billingham finished on top with 129 points, RZH were runners-up with 122½ and M&C third with 122 points. Attendances and performances have shown the new format to be successful – the Club appreciates the endeavour of the athletes, the efforts of the Coaches and all the hard work put-in by the Officials of the League.

Highlights of the meeting for the Harriers were the 1500m races. In the Ladies race, Louise Jackson won in 4:41.7, shattering her PB and setting a new Club record. Jon Orange also set a PB in the Men’s race, finishing in 4:06.8, just 0.7 second behind Rob Cole of MAC - running barefoot!
