Road Relay Races Redcar 28th March 2004

The time between Cross-Country and Track & Field is the time for Road Relay races and the season starts locally with the NYSD. This was the third year that Redcar Running Club had hosted the fixture at Locke Park, following-on fro Oliver’s Mount at Scarborough and Richmond, the original venue. Sunday 28th March, the clocks turned forward an hour and a bright day welcomed the runners to the coast.

Richmond and Zetland Harriers had teams in four of the seven races and all fared well. Highlights of the day included sisters Rosie and Jo Adams both running second fastest laps for the Under 13 and Under 15 Girls’ teams, Cory Fowden making her debut for the Under 13 Girls and both the Under 15 Girls and Under 17 Boys finishing second team.

RZH results: Under 13 Girls (3 x 1 mile) Rosie Adams 5:53, Cory Fowden 7:10 & Francesca Fowden 6:38, team 9th; Under 15 Girls (3 x 1 mile) Sophie Broadway 6:07, Katie Roberts 6:12 & Jo

Adams 5:39; Under 17 Boys (3 x 2 miles) Simon Robson 10:53, Phil Fitzpatrick 11:02 & Chris Archer 11:39, team 2nd; Men (4 x 2 miles) James Wardman 10:13, Ken Harker 10:13, Scott Wardman 10:24 & Jon Orange 10:24, team 5th.

Prize Presentation

The end-of-season awards followed the races at Redcar Cricket Club and NYSD President Mike Brooks had the pleasure of presenting the X-C Shield to the Harriers’ Under 15 Girl’s team, second place Certificates to the Under 17 Boys and Senior Women, 14 medals to individual Harriers who scored more than 20 points over the season plus a winner’s Trophy for the Under 15 Girl’s category to Jessie Roberts.
