Snape 10K and Fun Run - Saturday 11th September 2004

The weekend’s fixtures got underway at 11am on Saturday 11th with the 16th running of the Snape 10K and 5K Fun Run and Richmond and Zetland Harriers had 24 members, friends and family on the line. A fine morning after a mere sprinkling of rain overnight meant that the grassy sections of the run weren’t slippery although Mrs Donaldson’s promise of “a feast of home-baked goodies at the Village Institute” after the race was encouragement enough. There were over a hundred runners in each race and the Harriers earned their share of the trophies with James Wardman and ex-Harrier Scarlett Gray finishing first Male and Female in the 10K, Douglas and Jessie Roberts finishing similarly in the 5K and the latter two leading the Allertonshire School to first place in both boys and girls teams.

Open T&F Meeting York 12th September 2004

On Sunday 12th Nestle Rowntree hosted their Open T&F Meeting at Huntington Stadium, York. Ten Harriers made the trip and with awards for the first three places, they came home with seven trophies between them. In the Senior Men’s races, Matt Prosser was first 400m and Edd Richards was second in the mile “a pretty slow, tactical race where my finishing speed counted” and Marc Scott was first in the Under 11 Boy’s 600m. In the Under 13 Girl’s events, Alice Morrison was second in the high jump and Brogan Fraser and Ruth Hill were both third in the 80m and 150m sprints and Charlotte Dinsdale was also third in the Under 11 Girl’s 600m.

RZH results: Jun/Sen/Vet Men - Matt Prosser JM 400m 55.5; Edd Richards JM 1 mile 4:50.7; U11B - Marc Scott 75m 11.6, 600m 2:01.7 & long jump 3m06; Rob Scott 75m 12.3 & long jump 3m05; U15G - Sophie Broadway 100m 13.6 & 200m 27.2; U13G - Brogan Fraser 80m 11.2 & 150m 21.6; Ruth Hill 150m 21.1, 70m hurdles 14.1 & long jump 4m06; Alice Morrison 80m 12.6, 70m hurdles 14.2 & high jump 1m25; U11G - Charlotte Dinsdale 75m 11.6, 600m 2:03.7 & long jump 3m39; Amy Woodward 75m 12.0 & long jump 3m36.

Yorkshire Veterans T&F - Leeds 12th September 2004

The Yorkshire Veterans 15th Open T&F Meeting, including the County Championships, were at South Leeds Stadium on the same day and John Wild won all the M50 throws in very windy and difficult throwing conditions: hammer 38m48, discus 37m30, shot 9m97 and javelin 30m96. The previous week, John competed in the four throws at the North East Veterans Championships where he set a PB in the discus with a throw of 42m23, a distance that ranks him 4th in the UK for 2004, but his other results were “less than brilliant”.

Bristol Half Marathon

Even further south, 8577 runners completed the Bristol Half Marathon; Simon Tonui of Kenya won in 1:04:18, Steve Hepples of Loftus but now running for Newham & Essex Beagles was fourth in 1:05:29 and, as the race was a trial for the World Half Marathon Championships in New Delhi next month, he has earned selection for GB team. Another Kenyan, Miryam Wangari, won the Ladies race in 1:13:40 and the Harriers’ Sarah Gregory finished 1428th overall and 114th Lady in 1:40:49 - disappointed not to make the top hundred and match her London Marathon performance.
