Harrogate Theatre Races 10K & Fun Run 19th September 2004

Start of Fun Run - Marc & Rob

Up & Running, organisers of the first Harrogate Theatre Races in aid of the Theatre Restoration Appeal, were pleased with the turnout on Sunday 19th; the 10K Road Race had 335 finishers and the quite-a-bit-less-than-2.5K Fun Run had 146 finishers. Starting from and finishing at the Bandstand, both events were over scenic and undulating courses around Valley Gardens and the pinewoods of Harlow Moor. In the 10K, Alan Stimpson of Harrogate H&AC was first home in 33:49 and Lisa Mawer of Bingley was first Lady, 11th overall in 37:13. Two 16-year olds, Edward Clementson and Elise Mailloux, both of Harrogate H&AC, were the winning boy and girl in the Fun Run, in 7:22 and 9:10 respectively, but 10-year old Marc Scott of RZH got an equally big cheer - 6th place overall, first boy age 10 and under and just 49 seconds behind the winner. Marc’s brothers were also in the mix with Rob finishing 2nd boy age 10 and under, 12th overall in 9:23 and Ben finishing 13th boy age 10 and under, 39th overall in 11:03.

Open T&F Wakefield 19th September 2004

Edd Richards was the only Harrier to compete in the Open Meeting at Wakefield, also on Sunday 19th, and he wound-up his T&F season with a win in the 1500m. It was a decent quality field with two competitors faster than him on paper and another who had beaten him recently over 800m so he was pleased to snatch the win, by a metre or two in a very close sprint finish, and get a gold medal. This was Edd’s first race victory and much deserved, coming almost 12 months to the day since he joined the Club, having trained “religiously” and overcome the trauma of shin splints, listening to his Coach and never losing his smile!

Robin Hood Half Marathon 19th September 2004

Further south at Nottingham, new girl Rachel Ross Russell, running for Notts AC, her first-claim Club, set a new PB of 1:19:18 in the Robin Hood Half Marathon - 53rd overall, 6th Woman, 2nd W35 and leading her Club to 3rd in the Women’s Team race.
