Richmond Castle 10K - Sunday 17th October 2004

Richmond Castle 10K with Rich Hunt

The Senior Men from Richmond and Zetland Harriers regained their scalps at the Richmond Castle 10K on Sunday 17th 0ctober when they claimed both first place and first team place. Having been soundly beaten in all categories by their home-town rivals in this year’s Midweek League Road Race Series, the Men made short work of the prizes at this year’s race. A fine day, seasonal temperature and just enough breeze to keep things comfortable, the three hundred plus field set off down the Market Place with great heart. Will Kaye of York and Jonathan Gore were first to show but Harrier Rich Hunt, running in a grey Army vest, kept close order. After the leaders had climbed the first two hills, Rich took off and was never troubled, finishing almost a minute ahead of the field. Behind him, Philip Fitzpatrick and Ian Scott claimed team prizes, Scotty won a second bottle of wine for finishing 3rd M40 and Mike Brooks rounded-out the prizes with a £10 voucher from Bedale Sports for winning the M55 category. Bernadette Taylor of Darlington was 13th overall and 1st female in 39:35 and Philippa Abrahams finished 86th out of 317 finishers and 9th female in 45:26 on her debut, both as a Harrier and over the distance.

RZH results: 1st Rich Hunt 35:48, 10th Philip Fitzpatrick 39:02, 12th (& 3rd M40) Ian Scott 39:25, 15th Ed Devlin 39:43, 17th (& 1st M55) Mike Brooks 40:10, 19th Brian Rogers 40:31, 26th Tony Hewson 41:03, 35th Colin Sewell 42:10, 36th Paul Roberts 42:13, 71st Helen Driver 44:50 & 86th Philippa Abrahams 45:26.
