North Yorkshire Schools Inter-Counties Cross Country 26th - 27th February 2005
The Yorkshire Schools Inter-Counties X-C match was the only fixture to survive the weather locally over the weekend Saturday 26th/Sunday 27th February. Snow-covered courses caused the North East Harrier League to be cancelled, the NYSD X-C League fixture postponed for a week and the Clay Bank East Fell Race postponed until April.
Georgina Zissler selected for Co Durham

Four runners from Richmond and Zetland Harriers took part in Schools X-C match versus Humberside Schools over a course at York Racecourse which organiser Dave Paver described as “better than expected…after snow and floods during the previous week, the weather was milder, but many parts of course were still very muddy…deep JCB tracks and digging for Ascot changes made some sections impossible and the course had to be changed on the morning of the race to avoid them, so course measurements were uncertain”. The Harriers were looking to earn their places in the teams to compete in the English Schools X-C Championships on Saturday 12th March at Norwich but, despite their best efforts, it wasn’t to be. In the Junior Girl’s race, Rosie Adams placed 14th in 15:28. The Inter Girls and Senior Girls ran a combined race; Katie Roberts finished 15th overall and 10th Inter in 18:55 and Erica Moks finished 18th in 19:23. Josh Miers ran in the combined Inter and Senior Boys’ race finishing 15th overall and 12th Inter in 21:21.
This leaves five Harriers, Phil Fitzpatrick, Jessie and Doug Roberts, who all earned automatic selection at the Yorkshire County Championships plus Nick and Georgina Zissler who did likewise for Co Durham, to sort-of-fly the RZH flag at Norwich. The Club echoes the words of Paul Roberts - “I am hopeful they all do well and come back with smiles on their faces, it’s a good day out for them.”
