Harrogate Summer Road Race League - Ilkley 3rd May 2005

Ian Hepworth at Ilkley

Ilkley on Tuesday 3rd was the venue for the first race in this year’s HRL. The promise of a well organised race on a good course (about 5 miles with a good climb from the off) and a pleasant evening with fine hospitality attracted 293 finishers - a record by a considerable number. There should’ve been more than five from the Harriers, all Male Vets, make the journey. Ian Fisher of Otley AC notched another win in 25:28 and his Club finished 1st in both the Open (10 best places to score) and the Elite (3 best times to count) team races with RZH finishing 10th and 6th respectively. The Harriers only bright note came with 3rd place in the Male Vets (5 best places to score) race and the prospect of improvement through the series. RZH results: 9th (& 1st M40) Jon Orange 27:10, 21st Ian Scott 29:30, 24th Shaun Purkiss 29:44, 40th (& 1st M55) Mike Brooks 30:46 & 163rd Ian Hepworth 37:13.
