NYSD Track & Field - Eastbourne Stadium 17th May 2005

The second NYSD T&F League fixture was at Eastbourne Sports Complex, Darlington on Tuesday 17th May and nineteen Harriers enjoyed a fine evening for competition. The Club had two winners, both in the 200m; Leanne Shaw took first in the U15G race, adding to her 100m win from the first fixture, and Matt Prosser took the honours in the Senior Men’s race. Thomas Allen was the busiest athlete of the evening, competing in the 200m, 800m and long jump, the maximum number permitted, and forced to watch the high jump which had been postponed from the first fixture due to poor weather. RZH results: 200m - U13G Charlotte Dinsdale 32.1, U13B Marc Scott & Thomas Allen 31.9 & 32.5, U15G Leanne Shaw 27.2, SW Erica Moks (U20W) 32.2 & SM Matt Prosser (U20M) 25.2; 800m - U13G Charlotte Dinsdale 2:50.1, U13B Marc Scott & Thomas Allen 2:31.0 & 2:38.0, U15G Rosie Adams & Jane Thornton 2:32.0 & 2:56.3, U15B Tom Osborn 2:43.5, U17W Jo Adams 2:39.0, SW Erica Moks (U20W) 2:40.7, Fiona Hughes 2:53.9 & Jenny Fenwick (U20W) 3:10.1, SM James Brownfields-Pope (U20) 2:09.6, Simon Robson (U20) 2:15.1 & Ray Robson 2:24.8; long jump - U13B Rob Scott & Thomas Allen 3m58 & 2m74; high jump - U15G Ruth Hill & Brogan Fraser 1m28 & 1m20; javelin - SW Fiona Hughes 13m46 and SM John Wild (M50) 31m67. The team results are not available but, with M&C, Darlington and Billingham all fielding strong teams, it is unlikely the Club will have improved on their 4th place from the first fixture.

Harrogate Mid Week League - Guiseley 17th May 2005

The second race in the Harrogate & District Summer Road Race League was on the same Tuesday. The course was a picturesque 5.4 mile circuit from Spring Woods near Guiseley that included the sewage works, the towpath of the Leeds to Liverpool canal and the village of Esholt. There was a better turnout from the Club, eight Harriers decided the promise of hospitality at Dragons Health Club was not to be missed, and a better result. First place was all-but a foregone conclusion once Ian Fisher made the start line but Rich Hunt made light work of the uphill finish to finish 2nd, just 21 seconds down, and Rachel Ross Russell finished 1st Woman, more than a minute ahead of her closest rival. Although several of the A team and juniors were absent, the Club had enough at the sharp end to finish 2nd in the Elite race, and move up to 3rd overall, plus 3rd in the Veteran Men’s race and again move up to 3rd overall. RZH results: 2nd Rich Hunt 28:34, 6th (& 1st M40) Jon Orange 29:11, 22nd Ian Scott 32:02, 24th Shaun Purkiss 32:22, 34th (& 1st Woman) Rachel Ross Russell 32:39, 42nd Taff Rogers 33:05, 108th Mike Brooks 37:37 & 268th Shirley Mathurin 48:58 - from 301 finishers.
