The second fixture in Division 3 East of the Northern Senior T&F League was on Saturday 4th at the Eastbourne Sports Complex, Darlington and the Harriers had a much better turn-out with five women and thirteen men in action. All five women managed to compete in the maximum number of events allowed, including Sarah Gregory, taking it easy on her comeback from injury and only competing in two middle distance runs, four throws and a leg of the 4x400m relay. It was a nearly day for the men with six A-string second places: Noveed Adris was out-sprinted off the last hurdle by Paul Baker of NSP but had the consolation of shaving 1/10th second off his season’s best; Scott Wardman was second to Under 17 International Ricky Stevenson of NMH in the 800m; Mike Brooks made his season’s debut in the steeplechase and was a solid second out of a field of eight; Ken Harker earned maximum points in the 1500m despite being held-off by Lewis Moses of Newton Aycliffe as the winner was running as a guest; Jon Orange was second in the 5000m by more than 40 seconds as another International, Ryan Stephenson of NSP, set off with sub 70 laps and lapped all the field bar Jon; and veteran John Wild was second in the hammer, his best place from four throws on the day.
