Young Athletes League - Monkton- Jarrow 17th July 2005

The fourth and last fixture in the Young Athletes T&F League (YAL) was on Sunday 17th at Monkton Stadium, Jarrow and, with promotion out of reach, it was a small contingent from the Club who made the journey. But there was quality within their ranks and the ten athletes came away with 9 A-string and 7 B-string firsts between them plus a win by the under 15 girls in the 4 x 100m relay. Once again it was Leanne Shaw who led the way with A-string wins in all three of her individual events, shadowed by Ruth Hill with B-string wins in the same three events. Rosie Adams won her A-string discus, sister Jo Adams had an A-string in the throws, winning the shot and the discus, Sophie Broadway won the A-string 300m and Katie Roberts had a B-string double, winning the 800m and discus. Scott Goodrum was the only male to claim top spot with an A-string win in the triple jump, although Marcus Clarke was 2nd in the triple jump and won the B-string and followed it with a win in the B-string 100m. RZH results: U13B - Calum Wadsworth 75m hurdles 16.9, shot 4m20 & long jump 3m09; U15G - Rosie Adams 300m 48.8, 800m 2:27.4 & discus 16m83, Ruth Hill 100m 13.8, 200m 27.8 & long jump 3m84, Leanne Shaw 100m 13.2, 200m 27.3 & long jump 4m28, Jane Thornton 300m 49.3, 1500m 6:09.6 & javelin 10m12, 4 x 100m relay 56.8; U17M - Marcus Clarke 100m 12.7, 200m 25.9 & triple jump 10m55, Scott Goodrum 100m 12.3, 200m 24.6 & triple jump 11m49, U17W - Jo Adams 800m 2:32.7, discus 23m90 & shot 6m87, Sophie Broadway 100m 13.3, 200m 27.2 & 300m 43.7, Katie Roberts 800m 2:43.4, discus 19m30 & triple jump 8m09.

Hawksworth Dash Fell Race 17th July 2005

Gary Bastow continued his impressive run of form on the same Sunday at the Hawkswick Dash Fell Race. Gary employed the same tactics as the previous week at Alva and went with the leaders; his reward was 3rd place at the summit and beating Ted Mason, twice BOFRA Champion, to the top for the first time. Although Gary he lost 2 places on the descent (to runners 10 years younger) he was a minute faster than last year which isn't bad over a mile and a quarter. Fifth place overall and 1st M45 in 12:18, another category win and maximum points from three races, Gary is hoping he stays injury-free over the next couple of months as he need the last six races to get the M45 trophy.

Harrogate League - Handicap Race - Ripon 20th July 2005

Rachel and Jon receive their trophies from Norman Smith

The Harrogate & District Summer Road Race League came to a finale on Wednesday 20th with the Handicap Race and Presentation and Ripon Road Runners conjured-up another fine night, meteorologically, organisationally, athletically and culinary, at the Cricket Club. Given the proven vagaries of handicapping, the Harriers elected to use the race as a fun run between the ten who turned-up to compete over the 9.3K course which included Studley Park and the seven bridges. Club Treasurer Ian Hepworth was first home in 23rd place, 44 seconds clear of Rachel Ross Russell, whose last mad dash to the line brought her home in front of Shirley Mathurin by the thickness of her vest. RZH results: 23rd Ian Hepworth 64:06 (- 20:00 = 44:06) 58th Rachel Ross Russell 64:50 (- 30:00 = 34:50) 59th Shirley Mathurin 64:51 (- 12:00 = 52:51) 60th Mike Brooks 64:52 (- 27:00 = 37:52) 63rd Jon Orange 64:55 (- 33:00 = 31:55, fastest on the night!) 66th Ian Scott 64:58 (- 30:00 = 34:58) 88th Neil Piper 65:22 (- 28:00 = 43:22) 117th Shaun Purkiss 65:51 (- 30:00 = 35:51) 120th Sarah Gregory 65:53 (-22:00 = 43:53) & 140th Taff Rogers 66:15 (- 28:00 = 38:15) out of 179 finishers. The Harriers then picked-up two individual Trophies at the Presentation with Rachel Ross Russell winning the Ladies Shield and Jon Orange winning the Veterans M40 Shield.
