Club Sports Day Event & Social 4th September 2005
It was a busy weekend for the Harriers as they held their Sports Day/Quadrathlon on Sunday 4th at Catterick Garrison Athletic Stadium. The Club had lots of people to thank: the staff at Eastbourne Sports Complex for the loan of equipment, the Committee and parents who gave their time to officiate and score, work-out the results and make cups of tea, and to Him upstairs for the fine sunny weather. Despite the low turnout, there were fine performances in all the events and, with all the athletes having to jump, throw, sprint and run, there were some surprises too. Scott Goodrum ended the day with the biggest score and went home with the RZH Club Champion Cup. Ken Harker made another trans-Pennine trip to Trafford Athletic Stadium, Stretford on Tuesday 30th August for a BMC Gold Standard Meeting - “in an attempt to restore some pride after some mediocre races…after working from 8 till 3, then travelling to race at 8.15 pm, I feel like I had one of my best competitive races for many a year…I was in the second Open race; the pace was steady early on and the pack went through 400m in just over 60 seconds…I was in 5th place at the bell and then moved through the field down the back straight…the last 200m was a great race with four of us battling it out and I was sprinting!!…it was so close at the end, I got 2nd place in 2.01.95 and was well chuffed with my second fastest time of the year…now for a rest and time to think about the Cross Country season.”
