Wakefield Harriers Open Meeting 17th September 2005

Matt Prosser

The Harriers had two athletes travel to Thornes Park Athletic Stadium, Wakefield on Saturday 17th for Wakefield Harriers end-of-season Championships and Open Medal Meeting and both came away pleased with their efforts. Leanne Shaw ran and won both of the Under 15 Girls sprints: she won the 200m in 27.2 and then equalled her season’s best with 13.2 for the 100m. Matt Prosser, another sprinter, chose an unusual combination of events for his last T&F outing before he heads south to study at Bath University - but wasn’t disappointed with the outcome, running 56.5 for 400m and then winning the 110m hurdles in a PB 18.3.

Final BOFRA Race18th September 2005

Gary Bastow ran his last race of the BOFRA season on Sunday 18th at Embsay Crag, near Skipton. He said “the race is a three-miler, out through the fields and a stiff climb onto the crag top and back round again. I had rested quite a lot after running 3 races the week before and it paid off; I felt comfortable at the top and just went for it - it's a good feeling when things go right.” Going right is something of an understatement! The results show Alistair Dunn the winner in 19:54 and Gary 7th in 22:10, but he finished 1st M45 and beat Adrian Pickles, his closest challenger, by 28 seconds and 3 places to clinch first place in the M45 category - a superb achievement at the end of a most competitive season.

Local fell Races

Two results have been overlooked from local Fell Races: Tony Hewson finished 2nd at East Witton on Bank Holiday Monday 29th August and at the Muker Fell Race on Wednesday 7th, Erica Moks 15th overall and 1st Woman in 17:42 from 23 finishers.
