Richmond Castle 10K 16th October 2005

Richard Hunt with the leaders in Richmond Castle 10K

The Richmond Castle 10K Road Race took place in ideal conditions on Sunday 16th and the RZH Men’s “A” Team came away with a win - satisfied with their day’s work. With Jon Orange halfway through his autumn sabbatical, the Club’s hopes were on Rich Hunt but, with Darran Bilton of Leeds City AC and Terry Wall of Morpeth to compete with and the Honolulu Triathlon still in his legs, he had to settle for 3rd place. Second home for the Harriers was James Wardman in 11th place after a race-long battle with his team-mate and ex-training partner, Ken Harker who finished 2 places behind and anchored the team to a comprehensive victory. The fight for places continued down the field as Shaun Purkiss and Ian Scott finished in 17th and 19th places (and Shaun was 8th Veteran Man!) and with Tony Hewson finishing 31st, the “B” team scored 67 points, just 4 points away from claiming 2nd place. RZH results: 3rd Rich Hunt 33:42, 11th James Wardman 36:08, 13th Ken Harker 36:39, 17th Shaun Purkiss 37:42, 19th Ian Scott 37:53, 31st Tony Hewson 40:27, 46th Chris Peacock 41:28, 48th Mike Brooks 41:54, 64th James Brownfield-Pope 42:54, 112th Taff Rogers 45:32, 116th Jessie Roberts 45:41, 192nd Ray Robson 49:17, 326th Shirley Mathurin 56:34 and Grete Buck 401st 62:27. Several friends of the Club had a mixed day: Helen Driver wouldn’t have found any competition from the regulars at The Town Hall Hotel to her 96th place; Greg Carter was a lone runner from Easby Electronics and finished 162nd and Master-Chef Edd Devlin had “a bit of a stinker” and finished down in 182nd place.

Bridlington Half Marathon 16th October 2005

A few miles further south, the Bridlington Free Press reported that over 700 runners competed in the annual Half Marathon in similar good weather and this number included Louise Foster, running her first half. Louise said she could’ve kicked herself afterwards for setting-off too fast and running out of steam but was happy to go the distance, finishing in 413th place overall and 69th Woman, and the 1:57:50 gives her a real target.
