NYSD Cross Country Hartlepool - 30th October 2005

Sunday 30th October saw the opening fixture in the NYSD X-C League at Summerhill Country Park, Hartlepool, hosted by Burn Road Harriers. The course was shortened slightly due to construction work on the adjacent school playing fields and, whilst it was heavy-going underfoot, the rain held off and the sun tried its best to shine - it turned out to be far better than we had any right to expect, according to John Kettle, X-C Secretary. Under the watchful eye of Club stalwart, Heather Atkinson, newly installed as the League President, the Harriers made a solid start to their defence of the President’s Trophy. They had runners in all bar the Under 17 Men’s Race, had two individual winners with Maddy Winzer in the Under 13 Girls and Doug Roberts in the Under 15 Boys and the Under 13 Boys made second team place, but there were only 27 Harriers made the start line and only four teams finished and that was only good enough for 4th place.
