Leeds Abbey Dash 10K Sunday 27th November
Richmond and Zetland Harriers had six athletes, who elected to compete in the Leeds Abbey Dash 10k road race on Sunday 27th November. The race has become extremely popular in recent years, with its personal best potential and flat course attracting many of the top athletes, in addition to club runners and those wishing to raise money for charity. The weather provided a cool morning with a chilly wind, however this didn’t deter the 3289 athletes from lining up. Great Britain team member Nick McCormick of Morpeth won the race in a time of 29.17, the first of six runners inside the 30-minute mark, and set the pace for others to follow.

James Wardman was first finisher for the Harriers, pacing himself well to pass Jon Orange at the half way turning point, in the grounds of Kirkstall Abbey to finish in 33.20. Jon Orange’s usual fast finish deserted him on this occasion, but still came in to finish in 46th place overall, with a time of 33.33. Ken Harker meanwhile ran 35.26 and hopes to target the indoor track season in early spring. Ian Scott was fourth Harrier to complete the course in 36.14, followed by Mike Brooks, who crossed the line in 38.46, standing their training in good stead for the London Marathon in April. Greta Buck was happy to finish under the hour in 58.59, taking 6th place in the ladies over 60’s category and also setting the standard for her London Marathon training.
