Hartlepool Marina 5 Mile 2nd April 2006
Richmond and Zetland Harriers were once again represented in the Hartlepool Marina 5 mile race on Sunday 2nd April, which is a flat course run along the promenade and therefore produces times to match. The weather was ideal with bright skies and although freezing at the start, warmed up throughout the proceedings. Former Harrier, Andrea Woodvine was in excellent shape, completing the distance in a fantastic time of 29.06, with a winning margin of 42 seconds over the next female athlete and gaining her the position of first lady. Her strong run also earned her 23rd place in the race overall; a superb result. Neil Piper also enjoyed the race, upping the pace with the imminent road race season in mind, finishing in an admirable time of 36.48, which saw him take 128th position from 331 competitors.
The time is almost upon us once again for the Senior Men and Women’s North of England Track and Field league and the Harriers are looking amongst their ranks for willing competitors. Over the next few weeks and months, the club is looking to build its strongest possible team for each match and the message goes out to all senior athletes, to repeat the enthusiasm and support shown over the last two years, which have ended in promotion to Division 2 East. This year, Richmond and Zetland will be competing against Middlesbrough AC, Morpeth Harriers, Nestle Rowntree AC, Scarborough AC and Seaton AC. The proposed dates and venues take us to Monkton Stadium, Jarrow on 6th May and 3rd June and Claireville Stadium, Middlesbrough on 2nd July and 6th August. After gaining promotion by the narrowest of margins last season, the competition will certainly be at the sharp end and will provide a challenge for those competing in the higher division.
