Young Athletes League Jarrow - 21st May

There were several top performances in the second of the Young Athlete’s League meetings, which took place at Jarrow on Sunday 21st May. Nick Outhwaite once again claimed top spot in the Pole Vault, whereas Jack Thomas completed a fantastic hat-trick of wins in the Under 15 Boy’s 100m, 200m and 400m. Nathaniel Frankland went close to this, winning the Under 13 Boy’s 100m and 200m. For the girls, Leanne Shaw had another excellent day, with 3rd in the 100m, 2nd in the 200m and top position in the 300m and team mate Brogan Fraser faired well in the Under 15 Girl’s age group, taking 2nd and 3rd place in the sprints and a win in the Javelin. Holly Carrick recorded two triumphs in the Under 15 Girl’s Discus and Shot Putt, while Amy Coulson and Kerry Robson faired well in the Long Jump competition.

Northern Senior League T & F Jarrow - 6th May 2006

Results of the first Northern Senior League track and field meeting, also held at Jarrow on 6th May are now confirmed and show a disappointing turn out from Richmond and Zetland Harriers, with a total of only 9 athletes electing to compete. Undeterred, those attending put in solid performances in an attempt to cover as many events as possible, making for a busy afternoon. Jon Orange and Nick Zissler showed good early season track performances, as well as John Wild proving he is still in fine throwing form, covering all four events. Noveed Adris worked hard at the sprints and hurdles, while captain Chris Peacock tackled the middles distances and supported in the throws. For the ladies, Sarah Gregory ran two sound events in the 3000m and 1500m, while Jenny Fenwick and Fiona Hughes proficiently tackled a range of distances and events from 200m upwards and Jo Binks faired well in many of the field events and hurdles, showing some promising form for later in the season.

Harrogate League Starbeck - 18th May 2006

The second Harrogate League road race got underway at Starbeck on Thursday 18th May, again with fewer athletes from the club available than previously. This is a longer course than most, taking in trails and off-road tracks, in addition to the road sections. Jon Orange was first across the line for the Harriers, once again taking 4th position and maintaining pole position in the male V40 category; he was followed in by Shaun Purkiss in 15th place with another strong performance. Chris Peacock maintained good form to come home in 44th, while Taff Rogers finished comfortably inside the top third of runners, taking 77th spot. Jeff Thurlbeck rounded off the men’s vet team, which finished in 3rd place on this occasion, after their victory in the last race, when he completed the course in 91st place. Next Harrier home was Ian Hepworth, with a solid run to finish as 136th across the line, while the only lady, Paula Copeland, faired extremely well to bring the team home, when she claimed 152nd position from 259 competitors. Tomy Colmer unfortunately pulled up midway through the race with a calf injury, but hopes to be back in action soon.

Loughborough Grand Prix - Sunday 21st May

Andrea Woodvine continued her outstanding form, when she took part in the Loughborough Grand Prix on the track on Sunday 21st May. Taking part in the Women’s 5000m “A” race, she ran a spectacular time of 17.15.46 and took 7th place in the process. This is a superb time for Andrea and ranks her as 43rd in the country over the distance - a fantastic performance.
