The Harriers were back on the track field circuit for the last of the Northern Senior League meetings at Middlesbrough on Sunday 6th August, with a good team of female competitors, but were somewhat lacking representation in the men’s events. Undeterred the team battled on, but will be relegated to lower league status next season, competing in Division 3E. The ladies had a busy afternoon covering many of the events, with Fiona Hughes once again running, jumping and hurdling; Jo Adams and sister Rosie taking care of the middle distance events, sprints and discus, while Ruth Suffell put in some excellent performances in the throwing events. Jenny Fenwick tackled a multitude of events and Georgina Zissler found space for sprints, middle distance and field events. John Wild was a big miss for the men in the field events, however Jon Orange put in an outstanding performance in the 1500m with a personal best time of 4.00.7, Ken Harker had another excellent run in the 800m in 2.03.51 and James Brownfield-Pope also faired strongly in the 800m and High Jump.

British Masters - Stretford - 8th August 2006
Ken Harker has had a busy time on the track lately, competing in meetings far and wide, the first of which was the BMC meeting at Stretford, Manchester on 8th August. He had team mate Chris Peacock for company on this occasion and both finished well, with Ken in 6th place with a time of 2.03.00 and Chris with 2.14.1. Eight days later, Chris then went on to run a stronger and more pleasing time in the “B” race at Jarrow, which played host to the regional BMC meeting on 14th August, crossing the line in 2.13.4. Ken’s most recent outing took place at the BMC Manchester Grand Prix Final at Sport City on 12th August in very poor conditions for running, with a strong wind and rain lashing down on the competitors. Despite this he managed to get round his 2 laps of the track in his 800m race in a very admirable time of 2.04.88.
