As the track and field season draws to a close, two Richmond and Zetland athletes tested their speed on the road at the ever-popular Darlington 10K Road Race on Sunday 13th August. Jon Orange has been gathering momentum on the track all summer, having recently run a personal best of 4.00.7 over 1500m in the NYSD track and field league, which set him up for a good result at this local event.
Managing to keep Stephen Hepples company for the first 4 to 5 kilometres of the race, Jon was showing he was again in great shape and finished in a fantastic position of 2nd place overall, with a superb time to match of 31.56, only 41 seconds behind the winner. This also earned him the honours of first place in the Male V40 category, well clear of his nearest rival.
In the ladies race, relative newcomer to the club, Kelly Haniver, was showing that she has also benefited from a strong track season, taking 3rd place in an excellent time of 39.28 on the undulating course and 78th position overall from a field of 940 runners.
In the 3K fun run, Samuel Devlin was the sole representative for the club, also having a fantastic run on the day, taking 13th place overall and 2nd place in the boys M11 category, with an excellent time of 12.53.
RZH Results: Senior Men Jon Orange 2nd (& 1st Male Vet 40) 31.56. Senior Ladies Kelly Haniver 78th (& 3rd lady) 39.28. 3K Fun Run Samuel Devlin 13th (&2nd M11) 12.53.
