Harewood Multi Terrain Trail Race - 8th October 2006

Marc Scott has put in some solid training for the imminent cross country season, recently taking part in the Harewood 2 Mile multi-terrain trail race on Sunday 8th October. The route takes in parts of the Harewood estate and Eccup reservoir, making it a popular and scenic setting for competitors. It is run in conjunction with the main event - Harewood Trail Race, which covers a challenging 10 miles. Marc finished a fantastic 5th place overall from a record 249 runners, completing the race in 12.33 and setting an excellent new age group record in the 11-12 Boys category. This year Marc will once again be part of the Richmond & Zetland Under 13 Boys team in the NYSD cross country league, who will be bidding to retain their title of top team in this age group.

British Masters Weight Decathlon - Milton Keynes 24th September 2006

At the end of the track and field season, John Wild had another fantastic day’s competition at the British Masters Weight Decathlon in Milton Keynes on Sunday 24th September. As the title suggests, the event consists of ten throws in just one day, a mammoth task, even for the initiated thrower. John was defending his title from last year, when he became British Masters Champion, but was forced to settle for the runner’s up position and the silver medal on this occasion – not a bad days work! Afterwards John said “despite a disastrous discus and hammer, usually my two best events, I came second and was only 5 points behind last years total when I won.”

Apart from the well established throws of discus, javelin, hammer and shot putt, this gruelling event goes on to include the stein (a 10kg shot), the slingball, the club, the kugel (a mini shot putt), the one-handed hammer and the heavy hammer. John managed a fantastic total of 5795 points, so congratulations to him on another outstanding performance. His results are as follows: Shot Putt 9.65m, Discus 36.87m, Javelin 35.61m, Hammer 34.90m, Stein 7.88m, Slingball 41.40m, Club 47.82m, Kugel 25.23m, One-Handed Hammer 21.55m & Heavy Hammer 17.06m.
